Palazzo Tornielli

Type

Architecture Restoration

Year

2022

Location

Molare (Alessandria - Italy)

The restoration of Palazzo Tornielli di Crestvolant in Molare (Alessandria) involved a comprehensive program of works aimed at safeguarding and enhancing the building’s architectural and historical identity. Particular focus was placed on the façades and pitched roofs, with the objective of recovering the palace’s original neoclassical character while ensuring structural stability and durability.

The intervention included the complete renewal of the roof covering and wooden framework, consolidation of masonry and plaster, careful treatment of cracks with advanced techniques, and restoration of stone balustrades, decorative elements, and metal features. The main façade on Piazza Tornielli, the most representative, received special attention, but the same conservation criteria were applied to all elevations.

Windows, doors, and wooden fixtures were restored to their natural essence, while the façades were repainted with breathable silicate-based finishes in historically appropriate tones. Decorative details such as the sundial and floral motifs were also preserved and reintegrated.

The project did not alter the building’s dimensions or volumes, but rather highlighted its peculiarities and strengthened its role within the urban landscape. Today the palace, together with the parish church, stands out as a key landmark of Molare’s historic skyline and a symbol of local identity.
